
Xiang Wang is a Professor at the School of Chemical Engineering and Director of the Department of Catalytic Chemistry and Engineering at Dalian University of Technology (DUT). Before joining DUT in 2021, he worked as a Staff Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and a Senior Engineer at Cummins Inc. in the USA.
Prof. Wang has long been dedicated to the study of heterogeneous catalytic reactions and operando characterization of catalytic processes. Addressing frontiers in catalytic science and major challenges in energy and environmental sustainability, his research focuses on the catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide and waste plastics.
In the field of CO₂ catalytic conversion, Prof. Wang developed an integrated steady-state isotopic transient kinetic analysis (SSITKA)/operando-FTIR methodology. Using this approach, he was the first to observe the kinetic synchronization between surface species transformation and product formation under steady-state reaction conditions, providing new insights into catalytic reaction mechanisms and enabling the development of highly efficient catalysts with tunable selectivity.
For the catalytic valorization of waste plastics, he has developed a series of highly efficient catalysts for converting waste plastics into aviation jet fuel, long-chain dicarboxylic acids, high-performance adhesives, and monomers for closed-loop recycling.
