Abstract:We built a network model of 69 cities based on an express company's real air transportation network by regarding the cities and airlines between them as vertices and edges. According to the results of empirical study, we found that the air transportation network is of the characteristic of small-world and scale-free, the robustness of it was also analyzed by simulating the case of random attack and intentional attack in this paper, it showed that the air transportation network is robustness against random attack but considerably fragile against intentional attack, the average path length (APL) of the network changed moderately under the random removal of nodes, but the intentional removal of the highest degree nodes firstly rendered the APL to increase quickly,then, it decreased sharply.
