Abstract:A potential-based fluid element was used to simulate the fluid in the flow passage of a hydropower house, and its natural vibration characteristics and seismic responses were calculated by a FEM model. These calculations were compared with those obtained by a no-fluid model, and the effect of fluid in the flow passage on the structure dynamic characteristics was analyzed. The results show that fluid in the flow passage causes a change in the natural vibration characteristics of hydropower house, generally leading to greater vibration displacement and greater vibration stress of structure than the no-fluid case.Such change influences the vibration displacement and stress in the upper structure of the house more than those in the lower structure.
