Abstract: Extraction, characterization, and insecticide activity of sucrose esters exuded by some plants are introduced. Advances in synthesis of active sucrose esters are summarized, in which enzymatic synthesis can be considered as a primary method of synthesizing natural sucrose esters. Prospects for transferring the gene of enzymes for producing sucrose esters into other crops to control various soft-bodied insect pests are reviewed.
