Abstract: Ag/AgX/SrTiO3 (X = Cl, Br) photocatalysts were synthesized by a facile reverse microemulsion method. The photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, TEM, EDS, XPS, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by the degradation of methyl orange and Rhodamine B under the visible light illumination. Ag/AgBr/SrTiO3 showed higher photocatalytic activity as compared to that of Ag/AgCliSrTiO(3). The enhanced activity was attributed to the visible light active AgBr along with the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of the Ag nanoparticles. The photocatalytic mechanism was proposed based on the band structure analysis and active species trapping experiments. (C) 2017 Published by Elsevier B.V.
