Abstract:The keying processes of Suction Embedded Plate Anchors (SEPLAs) with flap are predicted using a plasticity model (PM). The yield surface of the PM, defined by the function of the combination of loads in normal, sliding, and moment, is obtained by three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element analyses. The load development, loss of embedment and anchor trajectory are investigated using this plasticity model. A three-dimensional Large Deformation Finite Element (3D-LDFE) model is also built to predict the performance of SEPLAs. The shank, the flap rotation and soil-chain interaction are considered in these analyses. Results of the two methods are compared with each other and agree very well. ? 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
