Abstract:Shape memory alloys (SMAs) have been used as an innovative material for seismic retrofits of buildings and bridges. This paper focus on the seismic response and the selfrecentering capability of concrete structures reinforced with superelastic SMAs. An eight-story SMA reinforced concrete (RC) structure is established by replacing the rebar of RC structures with superelastic SMAs. And the structural response of SMA RC structure under different earthquake records is analyzed by using the finite element analysis program ANSYS. The results show that the displacement response of SMA RC structure is less than that ordinary RC structure. Moreover, the residual displacement of SMA RC structure is less than that of RC structure, which demonstrates that SMA RC structure has good self-recentering capabilities.
