Abstract:Fatigue crack propagation tests with room temperature creep and single wave overload have been performed under constant stress intensity factor range, in a X70 pipeline steel by using Compact tension specimens. When the stress intensity factor used in creep tests is higher than the maximal stress intensity factor, time-dependent deformation at crack tip was observed. In addition, the higher overload ratio the more room temperature creep deformation. Similar to the single wave overload, creep strain can also induce subsequent fatigue crack growth retardation, however it is more serious. Crack closure is detected to analysis the underlying retardation mechanisms.
