Abstract:When waves are from deep water to islands and reefs, joint distribution of wave heights and periods will be varied greatly. Based on wave data measured in the South China Sea, joint distribution of wave heights and periods is obtained by using B-spline approximation. It is shown that the B-spline function is suitable for evaluation of wave conditions around islands and reefs, which will lay a foundation for an accurate description of long-term wave conditions around islands and reefs in the South China Sea. © 2020, Editorial Office of Ship Building of China.
