Abstract:A three-dimensional numerical flume was built with the capacity to generate semi-diurnal tide. The fishing net of the fish farm was simulated using the porous-media fluid model and the corresponding porous coefficients were determined from the hydrodynamic forces acting on the plane-net sheet which are correlated with the features of the fishing net. Using the proposed model, tidal current through a fish farm, consisting of 2x4 full-scale net cages, was investigated numerically. Flow fields both inside the net cages and around the fish farm were presented with different levels of biofouling on the netting and incidence angles. Overall, the reduction in flow velocity both inside the net cage and in the wake region increases with increasing level of biofouling. The incidence angle of the tidal current can affect the flow field inside and around the fish farm significantly.
