Mengqiao Xu, PhD, Associare Professor
My research mainly focuses on data-driven analysis of global maritime transportation systems. Currently, I am interested in quantitatively understanding the evolving complex system of global maritime transportation and its interaction with the development of international trade, based on advanced complex-network-science analyses and big empirical shipping datasets. Indeed, maritime transportation is fundamental to the world economy, as around 80% of global trade by volume is transported by sea each year.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Shipping Management (in 2011), a Master's degree in Transportation Planning and Management (in 2013), and PhD in Management Science and Engineering (in 2016), at Dalian Maritime University, the key maritime institution under the Ministry of Transport, People's Republic of China.
Research focus: global maritime transportation network, big shipping data analysis, complex network analysis, international trade network
